Piston valves – Characteristics
Valves used in water and gas installations owe their effectiveness to a simple yet reliable construction. Piston valves are equipped with two flexible rings whose task is to seal the piston. This element moves in a vertical plane in the central part of the entire valve. It is usually made of special stainless steel resistant to acids. The construction of piston valves is excellently thought out, which is why solutions of this type are eagerly used in numerous applications. Particularly commendable is the very large sealing surface, consisting of the lateral surface of the piston and the inner surface of the rings.
Piston Valve – Operating Principle
In addition to the rings and piston, the construction of a piston valve also includes a special sleeve with four lateral openings. When the piston is in the closed position, it is located inside the two rings and the sleeve. In the open position, when it is pushed upwards, it allows for the free flow of the medium. The working fluid flows in from the bottom, through the lower ring, the sleeve, and its openings, until the outlet section. A significant advantage of the piston valve is that its rings are easily replaceable. They can be removed without the need for any additional tools. Moreover, during such a replacement, the valve doesn’t even need to be removed from the installation. It’s enough to ensure easy access to it.
