Diaphragm Valve

Diaphragm valves in industry are used on a very wide scale. As the name suggests, they are equipped with a special diaphragm, which is most commonly made of flexible polymer. Its primary function is to ensure complete separation of the flowing medium from other parts that make up the valve structure. At GTM Process Valves store, we offer a wide range of diaphragm valves, including the 2T diaphragm valve, which will perform excellently in various installations. Our products stand out for their highest quality construction, above-average durability, and long lifespan, making them suitable for successful use even for many years, even in the most advanced installations.

Diaphragm valve – principle of operation

Diaphragm valves encompass a wide range of components that may slightly differ in construction and operation. Much also depends on the type of actuator used. Diaphragm valves with manual, electric, and pneumatic actuators are distinguished, among others. In GTM Process Valves’ offer, finding a diaphragm valve is effortless. However, the principle of operation of such valves boils down to the bending of the elastic diaphragm, resulting in the restriction of medium flow through this element. This can be explained more precisely using the example of manually operated diaphragm valves. In their case, the rotational movement of the manual handle is converted into the linear movement of the valve stem. Tightening the handle causes the stem to descend and compress the diaphragm. It stretches, resulting in a reduction of the valve passage area. Diaphragms are usually made of polymers. Among the most commonly used materials are EPDM and PTFE, as well as silicone or FPM/FKM.

What types of diaphragm valves are there?

Diaphragm valves can be divided into two basic types – through-way valves and weir valves. In the case of through-way valves, the diameter of the passage itself is not restricted in any way, ensuring unrestricted flow of the working medium. This type of solution is most commonly used in installations designed for transporting dense, viscous, or suspended liquids. As for weir valves, a special weir (or weir gate) is located in the central part of their body, which serves to limit the passage area. It significantly reduces the distance for the stretching diaphragm to close off the entire flow. Weir diaphragm valves are frequently encountered in the food industry.

Diaphragm valve – industrial use

Many large and small businesses utilize diaphragm valves. The application of this product in the industry is incredibly common. Diaphragm valves can be successfully employed in various installations, ensuring the proper operation of the entire system. They are most commonly found in locations where there is a flow of corrosive fluids, fibrous suspensions, suspensions with solid particles, viscous liquids, and other media that could easily clog the valve. The advantage of diaphragm valves over other types of valves is that they completely separate the flowing medium from the external environment. Another application worth mentioning is the regulation of small flows. At GTM Process Valves store, you can find a very wide range, including reliable diaphragm valves.
