It is equipped with a special stem whose rotational movement raises or lowers the wedge, the element responsible for opening and closing a particular section of the network. The wedge is one of the crucial components in every wedge gate valve. If it’s properly manufactured, it ensures the tightness and reliability of the installation even over extended periods.

The wedge gate valve with sealing
Wedge gate valves can be divided into two types – valves with soft sealing and valves with hard sealing (ring). The wedge gate valve with soft sealing is primarily used for cutting off clean water or industrial fluids at temperatures up to 120°C. On the other hand, the wedge gate valve with hard sealing, due to its construction, can be used in more demanding conditions. They employ a metallic sealing that is highly durable and resistant to various adverse factors.
For a wedge gate valve with a sealing ring to perform effectively, proper operation is crucial. It should be operated in either the ‘fully open’ or ‘fully closed’ position because partial opening could lead to serious sealing damage. Regarding valve control, it can be managed via a wheel on the stem or yoke, using a T-key, electric and pneumatic drives, or other mechanisms like a chain-operated wheel.
