Conical Valves

Conical valves are components that structurally resemble ball valves but perform slightly different tasks. They are widely used in gas and power installations, as well as in the petrochemical, chemical, and paper industries. Their main function is to regulate the flow of the working fluid in the production line. For such applications, it is advisable to opt for products characterized by high-quality construction, which can be found in the GTM Process Valves offer.

Conical valve – characteristics

The conical valves available in the GTM Process Valves assortment are primarily high-quality products that enable effective flow regulation in the installation or complete closure of the circuit. The precise operation depends on the type of valve used. We can distinguish two basic types: on-off and control. In the case of the former, its main task is to close or open the flow in the installation, while the latter allows for adjusting its intensity. A special cone, which controls the amount of material, is responsible for partial or complete closure.

Conical valves – construction

Due to the fact that conical valves can have a significant impact on the efficiency of installations, it is important to opt for products of high manufacturing standards and solid construction. When it comes to the body, materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and various types of cast iron are preferred. The use of these materials ensures that the valve is durable and resistant to various external and internal factors. Dimensions also matter – in the GTM Process Valves offer, you can find conical valves with diameters ranging from 15 to 300 DN.

These components also feature high thermal elasticity, providing resistance to extreme temperatures (from -60°C to even +200°C). Sealing with PTFE and graphite ensures proper protection of the entire structure. As a result, every task can be performed while maintaining protection for both the installation and personnel.

How does a conical valve differ from a ball valve?

The main difference between these components lies in their construction. In the case of a conical valve, the cone is responsible for regulating or completely closing the system, whereas in the case of a ball valve, it’s the ball. The primary advantage of a conical valve over a ball valve is the absence of “dead spaces.” The cross-section of a conical valve changes more linearly than that of a ball valve, making it better suited for flow regulation tasks.

Ball valves are primarily used in simple installations that do not require advanced protections. They work well for gas installations, as well as for both hot and cold water systems. Conical valves are a much better choice for critical installations where high durability of the mounted parts is required.
